Indigenous Use: American Indian used root in salves or poultices for sores, skin diseases and sprains.
Other Uses: Possess long lasting soaping action for soaps and shampoos and used as a tonic for hair loss. Relieves arthritis pain as well.
Preparation: Ointment preparation would be a mixture of powdered root and fat, oil or petroleum jelly. Prepare tea for a tonic by pouring one cup of boiling water over one teaspoon of pulverized yucca root. Steep for thirty minutes and strain. Take as needed, up to two cups a day.
