Indigenous Use: Drinking herbal teas, such as sage, during a sweat lodge is beneficial. Sage tea also induces sweating.
Other Uses: Indigenous people used the root of lyre-leaved sage (cancerweed) in an ointment made from fat for skin cancers and warts.
Preparation: Make tea by boiling leaves for twenty minutes. Strain and cool.
Availability: Found in sandy soils and lawns in eastern and central U.S. Common (Herbal Supplier). Substitute for lyre-leaved sage — Salvia officinalis
