The nature of friendship includes sharing and openness. These determine how a relationship develops. A true friend is trustworthy and someone with whom you can share confidences. Without openness, a friendship can only be an alliance. When the elders organize relationships, they balance alliances with friendships. In this way, harmony spreads throughout the tribe.
